PHYSICAL REOPENING OF SCHOOLS - COVID-19

Thank you, Madam Presiding Officer.

The Minority Councillor asked the Secretary of Education, Research and Technology the following question:

“Given that the country is still experiencing a Co vid-19 pandemic and face to face school has resumed, does the Division have a Covid-19 policy to manage the physical re-opening of schools?”

Secretary of Education, Research and Technology.

Thank you, Madam Presiding Officer. Good afternoon, Colleagues.

The question is: “Given that the country is still experiencing a Covid-19 pandemic and face to face school has resumed, does the Division have a Covid-19 policy to manage the physical re-opening of schools?”

     Yes, we do.

The Division of Education, Research and Technology has developed an Infectious Disease Management Plan - the first of its kind in the country for Covid-19. This plan outlines a systematic approach to prepare for and respond to any such infections and any related situation or activity that warrants a careful and prudent response.

This Infectious Disease Management Plan (IDMP) for Covid-19 in schools details the strategies to manage a flexible, scalable and proportionate system response, with appropriate and timely interventions and allocation of resources, to minimize the health consequences in all schools on the island of Tobago.

The Infectious Disease Management Plan (IDMP) was established on March 23rd, 2022, with its latest revision occurring on the 23rdMay, 2022. All principals have been provided with a copy of the policy and are provided with updates whenever revisions are made.

The dynamism and uncertainty of the virus, coupled with the changes in the national policy mean that there would be constant changes. In response, we will monitor operations within our schools and make further modifications to the policy based on emerging needs. The Minority Council is free to have this copy. [Indicating]

Thank you.
